My Playful Boy

07 June 2007, Thursday

Aiden is at the stage where he's totally aware of the surroundings and is able to response to questions/commands. He kind of knows the consequences of the actions that he takes, and will usually do the complete opposite of what we tell him to.

2030 - 2100 hours
Obediently goes to sleep in his own cot. Either me or hubby will keep him company until he falls asleep.

0100 - 0200 hours
Wakes up, stands up in his cot and goes "huuh" "huuh" "huuh". He wants to get into our bed to sleep with us. At this point, I'm too damn tired to think of consequences of my actions and will usually comply.

0200 – 0700 hours (on good days which unfortunately I can count with 1 hand)
Sleeps right through without any incidents

0200 – 0700 hours (on most occasions)
Wakes up once in the middle of the night, we don’t know what time as it's still dark, to play. Will usually pull at mummy or daddy's hair, nose, mouth and pull himself to standing position at the headboard. Will play 't-i-m-b-e-r' by himself aka let himself fall backward onto the bed. Usually accidents will happen because he'll hit our head or body!!! Goes back to sleep after half hour to one hour.

0710 hours
Mummy and Daddy will usually wake up groggy and with a backache cause Aiden takes up most of the space on the bed even though we have a king size bed

H~E~L~P : I need advise on how to stop Aiden from waking up in the middle of the night. We tried to ignore him, but he will cry if we don’t bring him to our bed!

Forget the cot. Let him sleep on your bed if you want your beauty sleep. With co-sleeping arrangements, Jeremy started sleeping thru the night from month 4 onwards and except for the occassional nightmare or if he is unwell, hardly ever bother us. Now he sleeps like a log from 10pm to 8am (7.45am during weekdays) everyday. We need to wake him up every morning now before going to work. And it is kinda hard to wake him up - gotta call his name like 10 times before the little fella would budge.

actually, i also put ashley to sleep next to me before carrying her into her own bed...but then...that's also not a good habit cause then they wont be able to fall asleep on their own in their own bed....
i read somewhere (cant remember what the technique is called..f somthing..) to let them cry..can't remember the details..when i do bump into it..will let you know..meanwhile..good luck!

poor dad n mum, it is hard for me to advise because I didn't face that problem with Jeriel. Maybe try to avoid late evening nap and shorter nap so that he will sleep at night?

Pinky - thanks, may try that for the whole nite instead of shifting him when he wakes up. I guess U have no choice huh, unless I wanna look like a zombie in the morns

Sasha - like I alwiz say, toddlers are wired the same har har..

JAzzmint - on Sun nite, I was so tired that I scolded him - he cried even harder :(

Mom2ashley - it's the one where you let the bebe cry and cry till he/she goes to bed. Me too soft hearted lar...plus I dont know if the neighbours would think I'm torturing the kid?

Chanel - tried that, but doesnt work. He still wakes up in the night..

Thanks mummies for all the notes, hopefully its a phase that will go away soon....Aiden used to be such an angel during nights until of late.

Haha. Irfan's the same, but he usually will sleep back once we put him on our bed.

If you are too soft-hearted to do the controlled crying technique, then susah. I want to try it, but Irwan's too soft hearted. Haha. So, for now, Irfan wins lor!!!

Aiden's a fine boy :D Sori i'm not able to contribute any tips. Fortunately my girl sleeps thru the nite since she turned 5 or 6 months old with the once in a blue moon waking up at odd hours for nothing. We moved her into her own bedroom when she was still ignorant of her surroundings when she was 3 mths old (at the time i slept on the mattress in her room also) but i completely stopped sleeping in her bedroom after she turned 5 months - we just keep the baby monitor on throughout the nite. i am sure aiden will sleep thru the nite when the time comes.

Nadia : same with Aiden, once hit our bed, he tidur balik

Mommieb : I had the same thinking when I was preggie. Wanted to have a nursery for Aiden. I guess we never got around doing this and plus I "kesian" him sleeping all by himself :(

Rainqueen21 : thanks for visiting my site ! I'll check out your advise.

I know it's not a good habit but when Ethan wakes up in the middle of the night we'll just bring him over to our bed too then he'll sleep ok. Good to know that we're not the only ones.

The method mom2ashley was talking about is controlled crying. It's a pretty good method if you can cope with all the crying (we can't). If both you and hubby are very determined then you will see results in about 2-3weeks.

But it'll be a passing phase.. They are so excited about life itself!

same like darren few months back, that's why he ended co-sleeping with us on the same bed now. If u find a way how to stop this, let me know too...hehe..

Me too, ng yan sum using the "crying" method.. so rather suffer from backache every morning..haha...
